Self-respect

Dr. Radhakrishnan by Svetoslav Roerich. 19581. "Dignity also means self-respect. A person can respect himself who has not tainted his dignity with anything: neither with lies, nor with fear, nor with irritation, nor with any other unworthy action. A person knows his misdeeds, and if they are committed, then the spirit deprives itself of self-respect, that is, dignity. The dignity of the spirit is a valuable quality. It is within himself, acting alone in front of himself, that a person asserts his dignity. ...He affirms it not in front of people, but in front of himself and in himself." [Facets of Agni Yoga 1955, 358]

2. "How can they respect someone who does not respect himself? Self–respect is not pomposity, not pride, not arrogance, but the product of a whole series of worthy actions, perhaps never noticed by anyone, but nevertheless creating the quality of the spirit." [Facets of Agni Yoga 1964, 338]

3. "One should keep one's dignity in all cases of life. Neither wealth, nor position, nor power belonging to someone, can deprive a person of a sense of dignity and self-respect. Why flatter your spirit before the signs of earthly greatness and significance? In the aspect of the spirit, they have no meaning and are equal to zero. They cannot add anything to our savings. Therefore, we should be the same in our attitude towards those people with whom life confronts today, in order to remove them from our life tomorrow. But the dignity of the spirit, preserved by you, will remain with you" [Facets of Agni Yoga 1954, 495]

4. "Moreover, it is necessary to understand the significance of mutual respect. …It is necessary to recognize the deep meaning of reciprocity when forces are increased tenfold." [Brotherhood, 424]

5. "Thus, in order to speak according to the level of consciousness of your interlocutor, you must first listen to him, sense his emanations, and understand his intent. …Sometimes people yearn for a universal spoken and written language, forgetting that one should first of all think about mutual spiritual understanding. ...Mutual respect is akin to compassion." [Supermundane, 528]
