Suite from “The Love for Three Oranges”. 03. March by S.S. Prokofiev

Keenness of sight

Tidings of the Eagle by Nicholas Roerich. 19271. "For some, being always on vigil is chains, but for others it is wings. The unwise say, “When danger comes, we will stand watch.” But will they perceive danger if their spirit has not developed its keenness of sight? Many qualities are dormant in the consciousness, and one must be able to draw them out of the depths of this treasury." [Supermundane, 785]

2. "The spiritually blind will not perceive the beauty of the Higher World, and keenness of sight must be cultivated. It cannot be gained at once. The development of vigilance results from one’s desire to safeguard everything High and Beautiful. Because of this striving one will always be on untiring vigil, which leads to Beauty. The Thinker said, “Remember, always be ready.”" [Supermundane, 785]

3. "…Let us not fall into bigotry or suspiciousness. The latter is to be distinguished from keenness. It has been said that keenness is straight, whereas suspiciousness is crooked." [Brotherhood, 206]

4. "Indeed, as an eagle on the summit, do not lose keenness. Sharp-sightedness grows only through perils. Welcome dangers!" [New Era Community, 128]

5. "... When We recommend vigilance, We mean it to be applied in all aspects of life. People think that vigilance is necessary only at times of great importance, but in fact it is required in even the most insignificant daily actions. It is impossible to separate the outward details from the essential, therefore events should not be evaluated by their appearance.  …“It is not for us to judge what is important and what is unimportant. Therefore, let us be vigilant!”." [Supermundane, 292]

6. “Fire requires caution. One should develop this, and service is the measure of one's solicitous vigilance." [Agni Yoga, 452]

7. "With complete detachment from oneself, the eye becomes especially sharp-sighted. But people are intensely occupied only with themselves and therefore do not hear and do not see." [Facets of Agni Yoga 1955, 166]

8. "A state of intense vigilance will accompany everywhere and always. It will give tension to the flame, protect from surprises and help avoid mistakes." [Facets of Agni Yoga 1953, 515]

9. "Is it not man himself who brings suffering upon himself by falling under the power of Maya? Isn't he himself consciously limiting his vision, trying to see only what he wants to see, and not what is in reality? After all, man has been given tools of recognition, which he can continually improve if they are used in action. So it is impossible to shift the blame entirely to the deception of illusions. Where was the vigilance, where was the sufficient attention to the signals of the heart – this faithful sentinel? Illusion can be sweet, but reality is bitter. The fly gets stuck in honey. Is honey entirely to blame for that?" [Еxcerpts by Boris Abramov from the book "Aspiring Heart" 1956, 371]

10. "Vigilance is valuable when it does not leave the waking consciousness for a minute." [Facets of Agni Yoga 1956, 224]
